What if growing your business didn't require a vast audience but rather a single solid partner who already has one? In today’s episode, we will outline a repeatable system for discovering, pitching, and scaling partnerships, even if you have no initial connections or advertising budget.
Kyle Kane, a former music executive and Inc. 500 honoree, is the founder of onSpark.com, a platform that has generated over $2 billion in partnership revenue for the brands he's collaborated with. Early in his career, he built relationships in the traditional manner by attending events and creating Rolodexes. However, he discovered that the key wasn't about meeting more people. Instead, it involved transforming existing relationships into a measurable, repeatable system.
This insight led him to develop the framework known as DVLA: Discover, Verify, Launch, and Amplify. It enables a side hustler without a network to leverage partnerships just like a Fortune 500 business development team.

The DVLA Partnership Framework:
- D — Discover: Compile a list of suitable partners
- V — Verify: Confirm your capabilities
- L — Launch: Execute a small initial test
- A — Amplify: Expand what proved successful
These stages also indicate your current position. If you’re still in the Discover phase, you likely lack a clear ideal customer profile (ICP) or a definitive offer.
How to Find the Right Partners (Discover)
The first step is to create a list of individuals who already possess the trust of the audience you aim to reach. Kyle suggests asking where your audience “funds, follows, or frequents.” Consider:
- Where do they go?
- Where do they acquire information?
- Where do they spend money?
If you're uncertain, Kyle recommends using a free AI tool like ChatGPT or Claude and entering your ideal customer profile, then asking who that person already trusts. You can also inquire about "alternatives to" or "similar people," a useful technique for identifying adjacent partners.
Kyle stressed that this isn't about the quantity of your list. Many individuals already have numerous potential partners in their existing network; they just haven’t activated it. As Kyle stated, “The network is already an asset they have. They’re just failing to activate it.”
How to Capture a Partner’s Attention
Once you have your list, it’s essential to provide value before asking for anything in return.
Leading With Value: The “1 + 1 = 11” Rule
This entails a mutual value exchange where you give something initially without expecting anything back, with discussions about affiliate or revenue-sharing coming afterward.
Kyle illustrated this with several quick examples.
1. Local Service Business (Pressure Washing)
For a pressure washing service, instead of approaching each door individually, you could pitch a real estate agent managing 50 properties, offering them 20% of each job referred. On a $1,000 job, that’s $200 per house, meaning 30 referred houses could easily cover a realtor’s mortgage through referrals.
2. Subscription E-Commerce
For subscription e-commerce, Kyle explained “box insert swaps” between two non-competing subscription brands, where each inserts an offer within the other’s shipping box or provides a free lighter version of their product in a partner’s higher tier package. An example could be HelloFresh, where boxes arrive with partner offers included.
For an online content business, such as a homemaking-tips radio content service, the strategy is to utilize what he terms "borrowed gravity": discover mom influencers or mompreneurs who already possess the trust of your target audience, offer them free mentions or an affiliate commission, and approach with generosity before bringing up the affiliate deal.
