Imagine having a constantly active AI chief operating officer that takes care of your SEO, manages your inbox, and oversees customer support—all for just $200 a month.
That’s precisely what Jacques Hopkins has accomplished with his 13-year-old online course business, Piano in 21 Days. He created an AI operator named Rocky using free, open-source software called OpenClaw, claiming it has replaced a $3,500/month SEO agency, reduced his customer support time, and made March his highest-profit month since COVID.
Longtime listeners may recognize Jacques from his previous nine appearances on the show. He also manages The Online Course Guy and returns in this episode to discuss how he established his AI operator, what it is doing for his business, and why he believes this is the most enjoyable work he has ever done.

Jacques identifies four levels of AI usage:
- Level 1: Most people operate here, using tools like ChatGPT or Gemini to ask questions and receive answers.
- Level 2: Automation, using tools like Zapier or Make to trigger actions based on events.
- Level 3: AI agents, enabling AI to perform tasks on a computer.
- Level 4: Where Jacques currently is, with a personal AI operator: a unique AI agent that learns continuously from your context and improves the longer you use it.
That’s Rocky. He resides on a Mac mini on Jacques’ desk and has been operating for about three months.
**Hardware and Setup**
The key guideline: never run this on your main computer. Jacques likens it to employing a new worker—you wouldn’t hand over your personal laptop to them. OpenClaw requires its own dedicated machine. A Mac mini is the suggested hardware as it’s compact, relatively affordable, and OpenClaw functions best with macOS. However, it can also work on Windows and Linux, and an old Mac laptop is sufficient for getting started. While it is technically possible to operate it on a cloud virtual private server, running it locally is generally deemed more secure.
The setup can be technical, but Jacques suggests using a Level 1 AI chat tool like Claude to assist whenever you encounter obstacles. He continues to use a “Claude advisor” alongside Rocky for this purpose. Jacques has created a step-by-step setup video covering the hardware, software, and how to interact with your operator via Telegram.
**Training Your Operator**
Upon initial setup of OpenClaw, you complete an onboarding process where you provide what Jacques refers to as an “operator brief”—a comprehensive overview of everything you want it to know. This includes your entire business history, personal context (like your kids’ names and birthdays), objectives, and areas where you’d like assistance.
The brief isn’t a one-time task. Since then, Rocky has absorbed every podcast episode, YouTube video, and online course Jacques has created, but this process occurred gradually, not all at once.
His top tip: Do not attempt to set up everything simultaneously. Focus on perfecting one system before moving to the next. Rushing can lead to breakdowns.
**What Rocky Handles Daily**
Here’s a glimpse of what Rocky manages for Jacques’ business:
- Sorts and drafts email replies in Jacques’ style, utilizing 13 years of email history.
- Sends a daily morning brief with overnight activities and top priorities.
- Oversees Meta Ads, providing a daily overview of what’s effective.
- Manages live business dashboards aggregating data from tools like Kajabi, ActiveCampaign, and GoHighLevel.
- Conducts SEO tasks—audits, fixes broken links, writes articles, and tracks rankings.
- Drafts customer support responses with full context (distinguishing between prospect and customer, funnel stage, and conversation history).
- Assists with health and wellness tracking and workout planning.
