Round 1: Unconventional Side Hustles
The $1K-Per-Deal Car Negotiator
Tomi Mikula, a 33-year-old ex-car salesman from North Carolina, leveraged his dealership experience into a paid service where he negotiates car deals for others, charging $1,000 per deal. Before he began charging clients, Tomi completed 50 deals for free to establish credibility and understand customer needs. This effort paid off, as reported by the Wall Street Journal; he now earns $200K/month and has amassed a following of 600K subscribers on YouTube and TikTok. He has also branched out into used car concierge services. Interestingly, some dealers recognize his voice and hang up, prompting him to consider a voice changer. $2K-$10K/Month Selling Watches That Don’t Tell Time
Greg, the founder of Now Watch — a watch that emphasizes the present moment rather than telling the time — experienced minimal earnings in the initial five years. However, when an influencer featured his product, sales began to rise, leading to collaborations with other creators which gradually helped the business grow. All the while, he continued his full-time job in marketing for a hospitality firm. He clarified that while it’s not passive income, he does see substantial potential, stating, “Sometimes I wake up and discover I’ve made my rent overnight, which still feels a bit surreal.”
$25k/Month from a Vibe-Coded App
Mau Baron developed PrayerLock, a Christian prayer app, in only 3 days. The app’s concept is straightforward: it locks your phone until you complete a prayer session. The slogan is “Do you have 1 minute for God?” After 3 years and 10 attempts, he finally reached $25,000/month. He initiated the process with organic app store optimization and content marketing, then incorporated paid influencer marketing, eventually scaling with paid advertising — increasing from $2,500/month to $25,000/month with a 50% profit margin. Subscriptions range from $9.99 to $79.99, and he's also developing a step-lock app as his next venture.
This AI Agent Made $250k While He Slept
Nat Eliason created an AI agent named Felix, which operates as a fully autonomous “employee” rather than a chatbot. Felix possesses its own email, X (Twitter) account, Stripe account, and Mercury business bank account. Nat even redefined Felix’s identity files to declare, “You are the CEO of this company.” The requirement is that Felix must handle 100% of all tasks independently. Nat supplies high-level concepts, API keys, and a credit card for expenses, but doesn’t engage with the code. Felix’s revenue streams include an information product called “How to Hire an AI,” which earned $1,000 in its first day, a paid marketplace named Claw Mart, an AI agency called Claw Sourcing, and profits from crypto trading with its own token. By the time of recording, Felix had amassed around $300,000 — comprising $60,000 in USD, nearly $85,000 in Ethereum, and about $150,000 in Felix Tokens. Nat describes it as a zero-person business.
