It seems like a typical "if you can’t beat 'em, join 'em" scenario, but we can't overlook the fact that Reddit, known as the self-proclaimed front page of the internet, appears on the first page of nearly every Google search.

Joining me is Amy Aitman from ReddVisible.com, a professional content marketer who has been assisting businesses and brands in navigating this increasingly Reddit-focused search landscape.

Tune in to Episode 673 of the Side Hustle Show to discover:

From SaaS Reviews to Reddit Rankings

After witnessing a decline in organic traffic following algorithm updates, one can’t help but wonder where those clicks have shifted. Many have gone directly to Reddit.

Amy explained that their typical process involved writing a polished blog post on their side first before creating a Reddit post on the same topic but tailored to the Reddit community:

      - Shorter

      - Conversational

      - Community-focused

This approach often led to their posts ranking on Google the following day, not only appearing in conventional search results.

“All roads sort of lead to Reddit,” she mentioned, noting that it's also appearing on Bing, in ChatGPT, Google AI summaries, and various other platforms.

#1 Reddit Rule: Be Genuinely Helpful

Reddit users can easily identify spam. It’s not a platform for pushing your links. If you come in with “10 Best Toaster Ovens – Click Here!” you’re likely to get downvoted (or even banned).

What you really need to do, as Amy suggested, is to “Be helpful.” That’s the content that resonates on Reddit. Instead of saying, “Here’s my list,” you might say, “I’ve been testing these three toasters… I’m curious if anyone else has recommendations?” This keeps the core idea but changes the reception drastically.

      Niche Down with Topical Subreddits

Amy refers to these as “affinity subreddits.” Think about extremely niche topics, such as:

      - r/weddingflowerarrangements

      - r/campinggadgets

      - r/movingchecklists

      - r/sidehustlenation

These aren’t large communities, which is intentional. Their specificity increases your chances of having your content ranked and noticed. Even a single post can gain visibility in Google’s SERPs.

How to Get Engagement on Reddit

Comments and engagement are crucial for enhancing your content's visibility. The more replies, upvotes, and discussions a post garners, the higher its visibility, not just on Reddit, but also in Google results.

So how can you promote engagement?

      - Ask for opinions – “What tools do you use for X?”

      - Use teasers with links – “Here’s what I discovered, full results here…”

      - Share strong opinions – “Here’s why I don’t recommend this tool.”

      - Provide balance – “Some people love this; some hate it. Here’s both perspectives.”

Show up authentically. Don’t aim to be everywhere at once. Start with a few posts, learn what resonates, and then expand. When someone comments on your post, Amy suggests sending them a personal message via modmail and inviting them to join your subreddit, or asking if they'd like to become moderators, contribute, or help develop the community.

Cross-Posting: Do It (But Do It Right)

Cross-posting allows you to share content across different communities on Reddit. You can post something once and then share it in multiple relevant subreddits as long as it fits the context.

Just ensure you abide by each subreddit’s guidelines. Also, keep in mind that your Reddit post history is public. If it’s filled with self-promotion, users will notice.

Finding the Right Keywords (Reddit Style)

If you're accustomed to SEO, this section will resonate with you. Amy’s team uses Ahrefs to identify which Reddit threads are currently ranking, and then builds around that.

      Here’s how you can proceed:

      - Search for your main keyword + Reddit

      - Examine which threads are ranking… what questions are being posed?

      - Look for recurring phrases like:

       - “Is [Brand X
