The Bad News and The Good News
The bad news: we’ve entered a zero-click environment. Users aren’t clicking, and it's unclear where traffic originates. The good news: ChatGPT conversions occur at a rate 15 times higher than organic SEO, a strong sign for businesses of any size to focus on being visible in AI responses.
If You Do These 3 Things…
Tanya suggests three key actions that can propel you ahead of your competitors by 60%, whether you’re a service provider, publisher, or e-commerce seller.
1. Establish Your Own Source of Truth
Regardless of whether you sell on Amazon or any other marketplace, create your own website that contains all information about your brand. This helps ChatGPT recognize you as an entity and know where to access trustworthy information about you. What you need:
- an about page
- FAQ
- services
- contact details
ChatGPT can sometimes spread false information about brands, pulling from outdated Reddit threads or old data. Your website allows you to clarify that misinformation. If you discover inaccuracies during a ChatGPT audit, update your FAQ with the correct information. Since you represent the ultimate source of truth for your website and ChatGPT acknowledges that, you can rectify misinformation this way.
2. Reach Out to Be Listed Where AI Tools Look
Search for “best [your niche]” on ChatGPT. Review the sources ChatGPT references; you’ll likely notice Reddit discussions and listicles. Get your business included there. Provide authoritative justifications such as revenue figures, conversion rates, and social proof, as list bloggers receive many outreach emails daily and you need to differentiate yourself. For Reddit: be candid and relevant to the conversation without including a link, as that will lead to an immediate ban. Expect a conversion rate of about 2-3% from your outreach emails.
3. Develop Content That Ranks
Use the shortcut of creating a YouTube video that is either a listicle or a how-to guide. Provide the answer upfront using BLUF (Bottom Line Up Front) along with an FAQ section. You can derive FAQ questions from Google’s "People Also Ask" section. For instance, Tanya recommended I write a post titled "The Best Side Hustle Podcasts." I included The Side Hustle Show prominently along with some of my favorites. I aimed to be genuine and helpful by linking to the other shows. Approximately 50% of clicks go to the first recommended option, 30% to the next two, and 20% to the rest.
Assessing Your Current Exposure in AI
Evaluate what these AI tools are conveying about you:
- ChatGPT
- Perplexity
- Copilot
- Gemini
One significant change: Side Hustle Nation has now become the top query in Google Search Console. By default, ChatGPT doesn’t include links but will mention brands by name, leading to increased direct Google searches and traffic.
Structuring Your Content
Implement BLUF (Bottom Line Up Front): provide the answer at the beginning. Avoid making readers scroll through lengthy content to find the information they seek. Add an FAQ section for engaging conversational questions users might ask. Include authoritative arguments close to your brand name. Type these out instead of using images, as AI currently indexes text better than images.
The Major Mistake
Avoid generating written content using AI. Google has become adept at identifying AI-produced content, especially for reviews and listicles. If Google allowed
